THE SPEAKER | BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
 

Dimeji Bankole, born on the 14th of November, 1969, in Lagos, had his early education in Lagos at the Lara Day Nursery and Primary School and later attended the Baptist Boys’ High School, Abeokuta (1985). He then proceeded for A levels at Albany College (1988); Bachelors Degree in Economics, University of Reading (1991); Military Technique Strategic Studies, University of Oxford (1992), Public Finance Management, John F Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (2005).

Bankole began his career Freight Agencies Nigeria Limited and later rose to the position of Director; Executive Director, Operations, for West African Products Limited and Aluminium Steel and PVC (ASAP) Nigeria Limited. In 2003, Bankole was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State. He has served as Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Finance; Member Committee on Defence; Member Committee on Internal Affairs; Member Committee on Banking and Currency. He was appointed Member of the Pan African Parliament. On the 1st of November 2007, he was overwhelmingly elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, National Assembly. Ever since, he has unleashed a reform process that has been adequately positioning the House of Representatives to the challenges of democracy good governance and development.

While in the National Assembly, Bankole has initiated Bills such as the National Office of Government Performance and Accountability, National Arbitration Commission, and the National Institute for Arbitration and Conciliation. Furthermore, he was elected President of the Afro-Arab Parliament; conferred with the national award of the Commander of the Federal Republic CFR; and in addition has served as the nations Amirul Hajj.

Dimeji is an avid Polo player. He is married with children.
