About the committee
(1) There shall be a Committee to be known as Committee on Rural Development consisting of not more than 40 members appointed at the commencement of the life of the House.
(2) The Committee's jurisdiction shall cover:
- Develop a comprehensive, realistic rural development policy and laws
- Coordinate and harmonise all rural development programmes to fit into the aforesaid policy and ensure implementation of same provided such programmes do not fall under the purview of any other Committee
- Liaise with all persons and agencies whose functions relate to rural development
- Oversight over all departments and agencies responsible for rural development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development or any other Ministry provided it is so designated and is not under the purview of any other Committee
- Annual budget estimates
