About the committee
(1) There shall be a Committee to be known as Committee on Foreign Affairs consisting of not more than 40 members appointed at the commencement of the life of the House.

(2) The Committee's jurisdiction shall cover:

  • Relations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with foreign nations generally
  • International conferences and congresses
  • Measures relating to the diplomatic service
  • Intervention abroad and declaration of war
  • Neutrality
  • Protection of Nigerian Citizens abroad and repatriation
  • Measures relating to international economic policy
  • Trading with unfriendly countries
  • Measures to foster commercial inter-course with foreign nations and to safeguard Nigerian business interests abroad
  • International commodity agreements including all agreements for co-operation in the export of nuclear technology and nuclear hardware
  • Pilgrimage;
    • Repatriation of destitute Nigerians
  • Technical assistance to foreign countries
  • Promotion of South-South co-operation and development
  • To promote New International Economic Order (NIEO)
  • To enhance financial assistance in the form of technology transfer
  • To sustain the commitment of member States to the broad themes of Globalisation, knowledge, Technology and North-South relationship
  • Annual budget estimates.
