About the committee
(1) There shall be a Committee to be known as Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness consisting of not more than forty 1(40) Members appointed at the commencement of 'the life of the House.

(2) The Committee's jurisdiction shall cover:

  • To develop policies on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness
  • Develop Pre-emptive Policies and Programmes for Search and Rescue Operations in the Maritime and Air Transport Industries
  • Design oil spillage control and illegal bunkering preventive measures for the oil industry
  • Design flood and ocean erosion and desertification control measures and legislation
  • Develop appropriate measures, including legislative action relating to the prevention of terrorism and related matters
  • Develop sustainable National Contingency plan in private and public sectors
  • Oversight over Oil Spill Detection Response Agency; and
  • Oversight over National Emergency Management Agency
  • Annual Budget Estimates
